Matthew & Mary

An Adoption Journey of Friendship and Discovery

Did you know that approximately 1 in 35 children in the United States is adopted? Each year, more than 50,000 children are adopted through foster care, and an estimated 100,000 children are adopted through all types of adoption annually. Yet, few stories for middle grade readers reflect the richness and complexity of their journeys.

Matthew & Mary: An Adoption Journey of Friendship and Discovery is a middle grade contemporary novel and the first in a planned series that celebrates cultural curiosity, adoption, and global adventure. When Matthew, a soccer-loving boy adopted from South Korea, meets Mary, a curious girl adopted from Colombia, they instantly bond over their shared experience of being adopted into American families. As their friendship deepens, they embark on a journey—both literal and emotional—traveling with their families throughout the United States, South Korea and Colombia to uncover the stories, traditions, and histories of their birthplaces.

Matthew and Mary’s journey is a profound testament to the transformative power of love and the beauty found in embracing new places, learning, and cultures. Their story deeply touches our hearts, reminding us that family transcends origins. It is beautifully formed through the bonds of adoption and, most importantly, through the love and shared experiences that weave us together. Their journey is a poignant reminder that true family is created by the love we give and receive.
